Although it’s called trekking,” it doesn’t involve rushing all over the place. Instead, I venture deep into the low mountains (satoyama) of Zushi, accessible by the Keikyu Line. With the murmur of a babbling brook as background music, I grill some meat, cook rice, and eat; after finishing my post-meal coffee, I take a stroll through the low mountains. On the way back, I take a bath, then sink into a box seat on the Yokosuka Line, drink a beer, and watch the throngs of passengers at Kamakura Station as I head home.

DIY

What I’ve always felt is that basic DIY can lead to both economic and psychological fulfillment. Let’s break this down a bit. First, examples of basic DIY include dining out and visiting cafes. When people hear these terms, most likely think of specific establishments. That’s right—while you have to pay a fair price when receiving these services outside the home, if you DIY them, the satisfaction you gain is quite high. In particular, compared to coffee served at a café, enjoying it at home costs only about one-third to one-fourth as much. In addition, simple home repairs can also be done quite inexpensively by using a 3D printer to create the necessary parts.
