PC :: Eat, Sleep, Hack... (EN)

I’ve been using the Apple][ and Personal Computer—which I received as a gift to celebrate my admission to the National College of Technology in exchange for not going on to university. The Apple][ was released around 1977, and I entered the National College of Technology in 1982, so I’ve been using them for about 45 years.Just as I don’t remember how many slices of bread I’ve eaten, I’ve completely forgotten how many PC s I bought, when I bought them, and what I mainly used them for.

Background
Recently (September 2026), the AI craze has been immense, and there has been a persistent shortage of stock, particularly for the SSD model. On top of that, PC prices have skyrocketed due to recent inflation and other factors. I bought this one around August 2025, so I really think I bought it at the perfect time. This PC is commonly referred to as a mini-PC and uses a mobile chipset, including the CPU. This helps keep heat generation in check and contributes to its compact size. While it may lack the power to handle AAA games at high settings, it’s more than sufficient for watching videos or developing client software.

This model caused quite a stir when it first came out… After all, it’s a smartphone SoC that actually powered that Macintosh… To be honest, I don’t use this Neo all that much. I bought it for when I’m out and about, but since I’m basically an old-timer, I hardly ever leave the house. Well, I get the feeling that old-timers like me only put light loads on PC, so this should be more than enough. As for why I chose this model, before buying this one—and even before buying the Geekom-A8—my previous machine was the M2Max MacStudio-2023 32GB/1TB. After that, I had a few things I wanted to do, so I bought the Geekom-A8.Geekom-A8 Once I started using that, it pretty much handled everything I needed. I began thinking, “I don’t really need the MacStudio…” so I ended up selling it. Not having a Mac makes me feel a bit uneasy, and I also wanted a portable PC that I could use on the go without any issues. That’s why I went with the Neo.

Package Installing a Simple Stand View from the back Buy on Amazon Block the exhaust vent slightly Stable I think this PC is definitely in the “quirky” category. The fact that it has a built-in hall-effect game controller is proof of that. I don’t plan on using it for regular development myself; I bought it specifically to take advantage of that game controller for controlling TriClops. Since it was originally designed for gaming, it comes equipped with a reasonably powerful CPU (Ryzen) and plenty of memory (32GB/2TB), as well as an LTE modem card. Unfortunately, since I’m an old-timer who doesn’t go out much, it rarely gets used—just like the Neo. But once ROCK starts getting more use, this PC should get its chance to shine again.
