Modules :: Eat, Sleep, Hack... (EN)

These are the modules that make up Trinity (SDR).
Modules are broadly categorized into Mechanics, Hardware, and Software. Mechanics refers to the exterior casing and mechanical components; Hardware includes electrical components, the smartphone itself, USB cables, and so on; and Software refers to the suite of software that makes up Trinity.

The goal of this project is to build a user-friendly wideband receiver. We’ll modify a smartphone case (hereinafter referred to as a “smartphone case”) and mount the components to create a practical wideband receiver. The main components consist of the modified smartphone case, the SDR dongle bracket, and their assembly.
Three Types of Usage (Form) With Trinity, you can choose which SDR module to use depending on the operational scenario. The available form factors are handheld, shoulder-mounted, and station-mounted. To achieve this, we use “magnetic piggyback mounting,” “sling mounting with snap hooks,” and “tripod mounting.”

Here, we’ll introduce the hardware components used.
Samsung Galaxy A25 5G Description This is an Android smartphone I got for 1 yen when I switched carriers via Rakuten. Compared to iPhones, Android smartphones have fewer restrictions on device connectivity and are easier to work with, so I recommend that anyone who enjoys electronics projects get one. Since this one is made by Samsung, there’s plenty of information available, so I highly recommend it. RTL-SDR BLOG V4 Description This is the main hardware component of this project. It incorporates all the necessary functions as a “SDR.” USB Coiled Cable Description I suppose any USB cable will work as long as it connects, but since appearance matters too, I’ll go with this one. It’s also a good idea to add a standard cable, since it’s easier to route. Also, as mentioned on the mechanics page, the Type-A female connector passes through a hole at the bottom of the bracket, so if you plan to use a cable other than the one included here, be sure to check the dimensions of the bracket’s hole.

Trinity consists of the following software packages. The APKs are available here. If you’d like to build or modify the software yourself rather than simply using the provided apk, please refer to the information below, which explains the development intent and key modification points for each program.
Live!Wave for SDR It functions as the front end for SDR control software. It is 100% implemented using multiple AI systems.
Key Features Direct Frequency Entry via Keypad - Enter the frequency you have saved directly using the keypad. t-t-t (tap to tune) - Overlays a button on frequency information found on the web and sends that frequency to SDR. From Chrome, select Live!Wave for SDR via the “Share” menu to reload the page via a proxy. X-Trigger - Select the frequency information exchanged via X in Chrome ⇒ Go to To SDR… to send that frequency to SDR. Trinity Switch/Launch - Launching and Switching to Other Apps in the Trinity Suite *This switch appears in t-t-t and in Live! Wave for SDR itself. By adjusting the settings in Android Settings > Accessibility (the exact wording may vary depending on the device), you can turn the “9GRadio - Trinity Edition” feature on or off using the play/pause buttons on your Bluetooth earbuds. Note: The “Accessibility Service” permission on Android is required to turn the Bluetooth earbuds’ reception on and off using the buttons. This permission enables the system to detect Bluetooth media buttons (AVRCP) system-wide; Live! Wave for SDR does not use this permission for any other purposes. 9GRadio - Trinity Edition - It controls SDR operations and functions as a backend. Among the many Android SDR control applications available, I chose this one because it supports background playback. While SDR++ offers rigctl server functionality, it does not support background playback. Additionally, its source code is open-source. I have used this to implement the following enhancements.

Trinity …allows you to connect various devices for a comfortable viewing experience.
Device Connection Examples Description By connecting various devices, you can create an even more comfortable viewing environment. Jog Dial Description When the Live!Wave for SDR or 9GRadio is active, you can intercept the input from the Fosi Audio VOL20 and use it as a jog dial for VFO control. Bluetooth Earbuds Description I’m using the “AVRCS” feature that comes standard with BT earbuds to assign the “Play/Pause” button to the On/Off function of “9GRadio.” Cheese Plate + Flexible Arm Description Using the tripod mount—a smartphone case that has been modified with a cheese plate and a flexible arm—you can securely position your smartphone however you like. ↗ ↗ Compact Tripod Description RTL-SDR V4 Placing it away from your smartphone gives you more flexibility with the antenna. Tablet Description t-t-t This improves the readability of the frequency information when setting frequencies. Power Banks and Charging Adapters Description The SDR dongle is powered by the main unit. If you use a power adapter to draw power from a portable battery or an AC adapter, you won’t have to worry about the power supply.
