Command Center of the Secret Base

　“The Base"—a term brimming with “middle-schooler” vibes—refers to a long-standing way of organizing PC-centered gadgets. It also describes an efficient layout for PCs and gadgets. The main components consist of Deck, Desk, Display,Sub PC, and Misc. These elements will be explained individually.

A pressing issue

　Basically, these are tips for creatively mounting various devices on an Erecta desk to improve usability and storage efficiency. Since I’m an old-timer with no means of my own, my place is pretty cramped. I’m just grateful to have a room of my own, and in such a small space, I have no choice but to maximize storage efficiency.

Structure

　Ergotron is well known for its monitor arms. The most common ways to attach this to a desk are to clamp it in place or secure it with grommets. ↗ ↗ “Old-timers” uses Electa’s characteristics to stabilize and simplify the mounting method.

How It Works

　Electra has structural support posts at each corner. The design involves placing a frame over these posts so they support each other—and this is where we’ll make use of those posts. Next, let’s take a look at Ergotron. Ergotron’s arms are also supported by posts. The challenge—and the key to ensuring stable operation of this Ergotron—is how to extend the cylindrical posts from the desk surface. Based on Electra’s structure, it’s possible to extend them from the desk using longer posts. The problem is that Electra and Ergotron are completely different products, so their support posts are not compatible with one another. Therefore, we’ll insert a sleeve to match the diameters of the posts and attach the Ergotron arm to the Electra support post.

How to Get Sleeves

　Since this is where the weight of the PC and monitor is supported, it needs to be made of sturdy material. The old-timers ordered the models from Misumi, and each was ordered at a different time. The ones made of iron have started to rust, so it would probably be better to make them out of stainless steel or something similar.
