A Free-to-Play Old-Timer

Old Farts use various services without paying a dime. I’d love to pay, but since I’m unemployed, I have no income—you can’t squeeze blood from a stone. Even so, I think Claude Code is a good option. Since starting this blog, the service I’ve used the most is “GitLab.” If “GitLab” were just a place to host Git repositories, I could get by with Plan 1, and since Old-Timer’s output is nothing to write home about, that wouldn’t be a problem. But I never expected to hit the limits for Plans 2 and 3. Well, come to think of it, it’s only natural—as long as I’m using computing resources to run Runner, I’m bound to hit the limit…

In light of this, when I asked for a solution regarding AI, I was advised to leave file management to gitlab and run the code on my local machine, PC. True enough, the PC I’m currently using as my main machine is a Ryzen, and since it has 32GB/2TB, there’s no problem. Although I struggled a bit and was anxious about AI’s tokens running out quickly since I’m not paying, I managed to finish it somehow.

I’m trying to convince myself that the free-to-play limit isn’t so bad after all. If I had more than enough tokens to use up, I’d probably be glued to PC like a monkey, indulging in it every day until I was completely exhausted—and I’d really hate that… Since resources are limited, I’ll use them wisely, and I think my orders for AI will be precise and efficient. Or so I tell myself as a consolation…

Even so, lately I’ve been able to get my work done without hitting the limit. Maybe granularity-driven development is starting to come naturally to me.
