Introduction
Burg is a curry restaurant chain centered in Kanagawa. With locations scattered throughout Kawasaki and Yokohama, the Akebono-cho and Yoshino-cho branches are the closest to my place, so I usually go to the Yoshino-cho branch. Burg offers a special menu called This Week’s Recommendation” (hereinafter referred to as “Recommendation”), which changes weekly and lets you enjoy flavors not found on the regular menu.An old-timer looks forward to these “Recommendations” and orders them unless there’s a very good reason not to. The fact that miso soup comes as a standard side is a subtle plus. -
Thoughts
This week’s special was pork sautéed with herbs. I think this is probably the first time it’s been on the menu. Well, since the specials rotate on a long cycle, it might have been offered before, and I’m just an old-timer who didn’t notice. Even though it was listed as “herb sauté,” it was lightly coated in breadcrumbs, giving it a crispy, savory texture. It goes really well with curry. The miso soup is the usual “Burger-style” version, where you don’t really taste the dashi. I’m used to this, too, so I don’t feel any discomfort with this combination—if anything, it gives me a sense of relief. For a while, I used to go to Mo-yan Curry quite often, but after Sansa Security was acquired by Arm, I stopped going to the Shinjuku location. I also used to frequent the Burg in Kamiyacho back in the Uhuru days, but the quality declined so significantly that I ended up going there less and less. Well, lately there are soup curry places and restaurants run by Indians in the neighborhood, so I don’t really have much trouble finding good curry.
