  • Introduction
I wonder how many times I’ve been invited on a “ramen drive”? A “ramen drive” refers to the ramen-hunting excursions of Bosch, an old-timer and my former coworker. We usually visit well-regarded ramen shops in the Kanto area once every two or three months. On the way, we catch up on what’s been going on—or maybe it’s just my former car-dealer nature—but for an old-timer like me, there’s nothing more satisfying than watching the cars go by and chatting about this and that.

  • Thoughts
If someone asked, “Name the first restaurant that comes to mind when you think of miso ramen,” Sumire would surely be among the first to come to mind. With that thought in mind, I looked past the line and checked the noren—it read Sumire.”When I arrived at 11:25, the line in front of the shop had wrapped around three times; glancing at my watch, I realized I’d have to wait 30 minutes.
It’s located in the Atsugi area, and for people in Yamato or Tsuruma, this place is probably the only choice. The flavor and quality are typical of Sumire, so it’s delicious. However, since the Sumire in Yokohama is within walking distance for me as an old-timer, I probably won’t be coming back here. I’m grateful that this place reminded me of the miso ramen spots in my neighborhood that I’ve been curious about, and if I ever find myself in this area craving miso ramen, this is the place I’ll choose.
