M&A Tales

Every now and then, I get emails that I don’t quite understand. At first, I thought they were spam, but it seems that’s not the case. I received an email that started something like this: “There is a company interested in your business.”

“So, I’d like to set up a meeting to discuss this,” he continued. The streaming microphone and Babyface Pro FS I bought around 2023 haven’t been used for meetings since I retired, so this is the perfect opportunity to put them to use. It’s been a while since I’ve used this setup, so I’d forgotten how to configure the equipment, and the fact that my main system runs on Windows made things a bit different. I struggled a bit—I still didn’t quite figure out the microphone gain settings by the end—but I’m sure it’ll be fine next time.

The process goes like this: I select a few firms that have requested a meeting and reach out to each one. If they express interest in M&A or have strong technical capabilities, I’ll go to that client. It was also interesting to hear that the M&A budget can be up to five times the profit—I’d heard that it’s usually two to three times. Well, I was impressed that they managed to find a company like Omiya Giken—a real niche firm—so even though I’d usually pass on something like that, I decided to go ahead with the meeting. It turned out to be more informative and enjoyable than I expected. I think I’ve had enough of work for now…
