It's Been a While Since the Last AI Surprise Shop
Since I’ve been having the AI do all sorts of things every day, I don’t get surprised very often anymore, but it’s been a while since the AI actually surprised me, so I thought I’d write about it.
I’ve now set things up so I can use irMagician on a regular basis. To maximize space efficiency, the YDBC-30 is mounted vertically, so the power indicator isn’t visible, and the only function I can control with the remote is the power toggle. Previously, I had analyzed the system to obtain separate On and Off data for the YDBC-30’s power supply, but over the years, I had lost that information… With no other option, I installed a separate indicator light and resolved the issue mechanically so I could tell which status it was in.
While investigating the TS stream of the YDBC-30, I came across the encoding values for the remote control’s “On” and “Off” commands. irMagician decodes these values, converts them into RAW data, and transmits them. Based on the toggle data I had on hand, I asked an AI to generate the decoded values for “On” and “Off.” I used deepseek, a service I’d only recently started using. In response to an additional request, I provided some data for it to generate, but I was unable to obtain separate data for “On” and “Off.” Just to see what would happen, I also tried using Claude Code, but it generated the output simply by using the toggle data and the encoding values for “On” and “Off” alone.
As I mentioned at the beginning, I’ve been using it every day lately, so it doesn’t really surprise me anymore, but for the first time in a while, the AI really took me by surprise.
